The Soundmax icon (next to the clock) changes to a warning status when the microphone record is not selected (if any other recording device is selected like line-in). It does not appear to have any effect on playback performance but why would not selecting microphone cause a warning?

I'm starting to suspect that something is going on with the SoundMax software that is loaded at startup. The SoundMax stuff came with the P4P800 motherboard and I know little about it.
